Lucy Miller

Norwich, Vt. a" Lucy D. Miller, 83, a longtime resident of Thetford died Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Valley Terrace in Norwich. She was born May 31, 1929, in Manchester, N.H. She was the daughter of Harold I. And Lucile (Colburn) Davis. She received her education in Pembroke, N.H., Norwich and was a 1947 graduate of Thetford Academy. Mrs. Miller was employed by the United States Postal Service for much of her working life. Locally, she worked at the U.S. Post Office in Norwich. She had been acting postmaster in the Carolina Islands in the Pacific and Deer Park, Wash. She was a Postmaster at Tortilla Flat, Ariz., Albion, Wash. and Odessa, Wash. where she retired in 1991. Mrs. Miller was a lifelong member of the United Church of Christ. She attended services at Therford Hill and other churches throughout the country. She was also an auxiliary member of the Veteran's of Foreign wars and an active member of the League of Postmasters. Survivors include her son, Charles Bacon (Maureen) of Enfield, N.H.; two daughters, Linda McCarthy (Thomas) of Florence, Mass. and Lisa Clausen (Frederick) of Alamogordo, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Cheryl Ferrell (George) of Denver, Colo.; one brother, George Davis of Kennewick, Wash.; one sister, Elizabeth Olsen of Autryville, N.C. and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Austin Miller, a daughter, Kathryn Donnelly (William) and two sister Pricilla Emerson and Gail Harris. A celebration of life will be held on May 5 at 10 a.m. at Valley Terrace in Norwich. Burial will be in the South Strafford Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are being handled by Hale Funeral Home.
