Myrtle Flanders

January 21, 1914 — April 11, 2014

Corinth, VT-Myrtle Flanders, formally of East Corinth, Vt., passed away peacefully Friday, April 11, 2014 surrounded by her loved ones. Myrtle, always loving a good party, celebrated her 100th birthday in January of this year with 25 friends and family at Rowan Court Health and Rehab, Barre, Vt. Where she had been a resident for the past three years. She was born in Lyman, N.H.,on January 21, 1914, the oldest child of Harry and Maude (Haynes) Aldrich. On January 24, 1936 she married the love of her life, Elmer (Buster) Flanders who predeceased her in1982.Myrtle was a beautiful seamstress and in the 1940's she and a group of ladies from the East Corinth Red Cross, sewed clothing for the men in the service, children in hospitals and others in need. She lived in the little yellow house on Village Road in East Corinth for over 65 years, where she especially enjoyed watching the 4th of July parade from her front lawn with her family and friends.. With the help of many neighbors, she held rummage sales at her home to benefit the Valley Health Center and the East Corinth Fire Department. For her 20 plus years of having rummage sales, the East Corinth Fire Department made her an Honorary member of the Fire department and presented her with a plaque that she proudly showed to everyone. As she and Buster never had any children of their own, their doors were always open to her many nieces and nephews and any neighborhood kids that wanted to come and spend some time with them. She loved to have company, share a cup of tea, and visit with anyone that stopped by. Myrtle enjoyed rummage sales, flea markets, and especially yard sales. Sitting in her back yard on her swing and watching the river flow by, brought her much comfort. Her love of family, community and friends, filled up her 100 plus years of living. She was predeceased by her siblings, Francis Aldrich, Lloyd Aldrich, Norman Aldrich, Velma Mackie and Evelyn Welch. She is survived by a sister-in law, Rosalie Aldrich, Newbury, Vt and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Rowan Court Health and Rehab for the wonderful care and attention she received there. Everyone there became part of her second family. There will be a graveside service onMay 23, 2014 at 11 am.,at the family lot in East Corinth, Vt. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in Myrtles memory can be made to theEast Corinth Fire Department, P.O.
