Rose Helen Southworth

Post Mills, VT-Rose Helen MacFarlane Southworth, 90, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2013 in Hanover, NH. Rose was born to Pearly and Camilla (Tripp) MacFarlane on November 16, 1922 in Post Mills, VT. After graduating from Thetford Academy, she served in the United States Navy from 1940-1944 as a First Rated Ships Cook. Upon returning to Post Mills she owned and operated the Airport CafAC.. In 1947 she was married to Roger S. Southworth and together they ran the Mid Valley Farm in West Fairlee until 1963 when they divorced. In later years she was a proof reader at Dartmouth Printing Company and retired in 1985 from Conval in Ely, VT. Rose moved to Norwich Senior Housing after retirement, where she lived until August of 2013. Rose was a avid Red Sox fan, loved watching the Celtics and Nascar driver Jeff Gordon. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, reading, listening to music, and taking long walks. She was a member of the Post Mills Congregational Church where she sang for many years in the choir. She will always be remembered for her "MacFarlane Wit" She is survived by two daughters, Penny Adams on Island Pond, VT and Susan S. Illsley of Post Mills, VT.; one son, William R. Southworth of Corinth, VT ., nicks widow, Vickie Macfarlane of West Fairlee, VT; eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; one sister Barbara ( Bobbie) Southworth of Post Mills, VT., as well as many nieces and nephews and lifelong friends. She was predeceased by one son, Nick Macfarlane and two sisters, Aletha and Pearl. At Rose's request there are no services held.
