Roy Tyler, 91, of Orford New Hampshire died Sunday, February 6, 2012 at Dartmouth- Hitchcock Medical Center following a brief illness. He leaves his wife of 69 years, Carolyn (Gierman) Tyler; his daughter, Sharon Tyler and her companion, Norman Fletcher; his sister, Laura Orr; three grandchildren, Dana, Matthew and Nathan Nagy; as well as several nieces and a nephew. He is predeceased by his brothers Dennis, Donald, Kenneth and Dana and sister Marion Ackerman. Born in Haverhill NH, the son of Leon and Arlene Lillius (Dow) Tyler, he also lived in Benton and Lisbon, NH; Ryegate and McIndoe Falls, VT; Trenton and Pennington, NJ. After graduating from McIndoes Academy in 1939. He joined the Army in 1940 and was stationed at Fort Ethan Allen in VT. He met his wife, Carolyn Gierman, while stationed at Ft. Dix, NJ and they were married in 1942 at Browns Mills United Methodist Church. He was a World War II Veteran and served two years in England and one year in France. He was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant in 1946. After serving with the Army, Roy was employed as an Inspector at Public Service E&G Co. of NJ in Trenton, where he worked until retirement. He also volunteered with the Red Cross as a water-safety instructor and enjoyed working part-time at the Quarry Swimming Club in Hopewell, NJ. He was also a proud member of the Hopewell post of the American Legion for many years. Roy loved the outdoors, including vegetable gardening, hunting, fishing, alpine skiing, swimming. He was a world-renowned berry picker and loved pickling, especially dilly beans. An avid snowmobiler, he was a longtime member of The Upper Valley Snow Packers in West Fairlee, VT. He enjoyed bowling with the Sunshine League at Victory Lanes in Woodsville, NH. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the Spring for friends and family.
