WEST FAIRLEE- Sherryl Sue Cook Pero “Sherry”. November 11, 1951- February 14, 2024. Sherry was born the first day of Deer Rifle season, the same day her father harvested the biggest buck of his life. She went to the little Red School House in West Fairlee Center, and at one point had her mother, Dottie Cook, as her third grade teacher. Sherry had a love for Brook Trout Fishing, playing waist deep in mud and muck on the farm as a kid, and she loved being outdoors.
In 1969 she graduated from Thetford Academy and went to UVM that fall. She then graduated as a medical tech in 1973. Sherry spent her life working for the VA in White River Junction for 43 ½ years at the VA Hospital. She was the Senior Lab Tech and Blood Bank Supervisor. There were nights she would stay late and not get paid overtime just to make sure the Vets had the blood they needed on hand and ready for surgery or transfusions. She dedicated her life to taking care of Veterans.
September 15 of 1984, All the neighbors and community members put everything together for Sherry and Nathan’s wedding. Brought them into the community where she was loved by many and welcomed by many. Nathan, her husband of 40years, and Sherry bought their property in 1983. Which was part of the original land owned by her Great Grand Father and four generations now. This is where the beginning of many wonderful memories as a new little family began. She then enjoyed many summers gardening, bird watching, fishing, and watching the live band play at her husband’s birthday parties. She loved star gazing and watching the storms pass. Most of all, she loved her family.
