THETFORD-The world lost a wonderful woman, Shirley Adams, on February 19, 2024.
Shirley battled with dementia for many years, but it never stopped her unforgettable laugh or her caring spirit. She was the proud mother of 4 daughters, 8 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. Shirley’s greatest love was her family, and she was happiest when spending time with them. She was the second of 7 children in addition to several half siblings.
Shirley was born in Plainfield, NH on September 2, 1939, to Leon Raymond and Frances (Colburn) Raymond. She graduated High School from West Lebanon, NH in 1957 and married Harold Adams Jr. in 1958. She lived much of her life in Thetford, VT and worked most of those years at Dartmouth Hitchcock (MHMH) prior to her retirement in 2003. She’ll always be remembered for being a hard worker.
In addition to family, Shirley enjoyed music (especially Elvis), her flower gardens, dancing (especially with her sister Sandy), reading, bird watching, baking, camping, and going for walks. She also had a great love of animals. One of her fondest memories was the trip she took to Nashville and Graceland with her brother Steve.
Shirley is survived by her daughters; Rhonda (Tony) Newbury, VT., Kim (Doug) Newport, NH. Kelly (Kevin) Thetford, VT., Felicia (David) Raleigh, NC. Her grandchildren, Samantha, Danielle, Ryan, Ashley, Tyler, Brody, Shaylen, and Jennifer. Her great grandchildren, and her siblings; Joe Raymond Toyoko Japan, Sandy (Don) Lebanon NH., Philip (Stephanie) Lebanon NH., Ida Kimball White River VT., Steve (Norma) Mt. Airy MD. and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents Leon and Frances, her youngest sister Brenda, her sister-in-law Katie, brother-in-law Ed, and her beloved dog Sparky.
The family would like to thank her caregivers at Hanover Terrace where she resided for many years and the Bayada Hospice Care for their support and guidance at the end of Shirley’s life.
A celebration of life will be held at Hales Funeral home in Bradford VT on March 23rd at 11:30 am.
