Tom was known for his love of the outdoors, was an avid hiker of the White Mtns, and the kind of skier who kept track of how many vertical feet he skied each season. When younger, he was a rock climber, and an adventurous skier of places like Tuckerman's Ravine. He enjoyed being on the water in all kinds of vessels, from kayaks to sailboats, and had a special affection for the Maine coast. A lover of statistics and history, Tom could rattle off facts and information about any topic, including the weather, plants, World War II, birds, and, recently, how much weight his roof was bearing due to this winter's snow. Tom was a self-proclaimed "foodie" who loved to try new recipes, and thoroughly enjoyed traveling around to "diners, drive-ins and dives" to sample the local cuisine. He and Becky shared their love of food, frequently welcoming family and friends to their home for elaborately prepared meals, and house specialties such as "donut night." Tom had a green thumb and loved to garden, and always had outstanding vegetable and flower gardens. He was a collector, by nature, who loved to browse through second-hand shops and antiques store looking for small treasures. Tom's intellect and interests made him a fascinating conversationalist who was rarely at a loss for words. Tom is survived by his mother, Rosemary, of Port Orange, FL, sisters Anne Dall and her husband Tony of Lyme, NH, Mary Dupont and her husband Jim and family of Port Orange, FL, Helen Daniels and husband Don, of Plains, MT, brothers Peter Durgin and wife Claire and family of Chester, VT, and John Durgin and wife Christy and family of Fairlee, VT, and several nieces and nephews, as well as his beloved partner, Becky DiFranceso, of Thetford, VT, and her sons Tim and Scott. A celebration of Tom's life will be held on April 9th. (Details to be announced at a later date.) Donations in Tom's memory may be sent to the Wells River Savings Bank, 223 Main Street, Bradford, VT 05033 and will be distributed to Tom's favorite charities.
