Emily Cobb Lea, of Bradford, VT, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at 3:50 P.M.  Emily was born May 7th, 1929 in Newbury, VT to Richard Bayley Cobb, Sr. and Lisle Southworth Cobb.

Emily was born in the home of her grandparents known as the Isaac Bayley house.  On her father’s side, Emily’s family roots were deeply embedded in the town of Newbury.  Tracing back to General Jacob Bayley founder of Newbury, VT who had the house Emily was born in built for his son Isaac.  This home had remained in her family into the early 2000’s.

Emily attended school in Newbury, VT, graduating in June of 1947 as Valedictorian of her class.  Following graduation, she attended Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene in Boston, MA.  After completion of the 12 month program she returned to Newbury, finding immediate employment with Dr. Bailey, DDS, in Bradford, VT, in the late summer of 1948.  Dr. Bayley later sold the practice to Dr. Philip Munson, DDS.  Emily stayed on with Dr. Munson and later his son, Dr. Robert Munson, into the early 1990’s.

In the spring of 1950, Emily met her future husband, Clyde G. Lea of Bradford, VT, at a local Saturday night dance in Haverhill, NH.  After a three month courtship, they were married on August 20th, 1950. Together they built a home on Summer Street in Bradford and lived there from Dec., 1954, until she entered Grafton County Nursing Home in October of 2011.

Music was a constant companion and love for Emily, extending into her later years of life.  She played piano and clarinet for years.  She took piano lessons for 12 years from the late Katrina Munn of Bradford, VT, while attending school.  She was a member of the McClure Marching Band summers during the same period and then again in retirement, when the band was resurrected to play numerous concerts in the area.  She was a member of the North Country Chorus for many years.  She was a member of Bradford Evangelical Free Church and the pianist from the early 1980’s until 2010.

Emily was preceded in death by her parents Richard Bayley Cobb, Sr. and Lisle Southworth Cobb, siblings Richard Bayley Cobb, Jr. and Deborah Cobb Lundblad. Her husband Clyde passed on Nov. 5th 2016.

Emily is survived by daughter, Cindy Lea Sanborn of Plymouth, MN; son O.J. Lea of Hauppauge on Long Island, NY and son Daniel K. Lea and wife Linda of Piermont, NH.  She has four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a very special Son-in-law, John Sanborn of Bradford, VT who faithfully made many visits to them in the latter years of their lives.  They loved him dearly.

Emily and husband Clyde fell in love with the Northeast Kingdom of VT.  They began vacationing on Lake Seymour in Morgan, VT in July of 1963.  In October of 1968 they purchased their own camp on Lake Seymour and had many wonderful years there with family and friends.

A memorial service will be announced at a future date and time.  Interment will be at the Veteran’s cemetery in Randolph, VT. Arrangements are by Hale Funeral Home of Bradford, VT.
