Orford, NH-Geraldine Johnson Washburn passed away surrounded by family on Monday, November 30, 2020.
Jerry was born January 3, 1950 in Lebanon, NH to Lurline Dyke Johnson and Robert Johnson. She grew up and lived in Orfordville her entire life. Jerry had many fond memories of her childhood with her siblings, nieces, nephews and many cousins. They were all inseparable. She married Horton Washburn on December 29, 1976 and they lived happily for forty years on Dame Hill.
In her adult life, Jerry’s passion was her family. She was known for her home cooking and providing feasts for all of the Dame Hill Gang. Jerry was very active in the Orfordville Church and the church suppers. As Jerry’s children grew older she became involved in the starting of the Orford Parents’ and Booster Clubs. The clubs’ biggest fund raiser was a weekly bingo game that Jerry created. Jerry would travel to bingo games and casinos with groups of friends. She had many fond memories of those trips. She was recently able to visit a casino with two dear friends, which was much needed.
Another passion of Jerry’s was her love for ALL sports. Her favorites were her beloved New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. The highlight of her life was when she became a grandmother. She played a very important role in the raising of her grandchildren, and many others that considered her a grandparent.
Jerry was predeceased by her parents, her husband Horton, son Rodney Estes and son-in-law Jim Piper.
She is survived by her siblings, Beverly Ricker, Jackie Huntington, Greg Johnson and his partner Diane Chase. Jerry is also survived by her children: Neil and Barb, Shawn and Juli, Sharyn and Bert, Tammy Piper, and daughter-in-law Tamara Estes. Her grandchildren are Laura Jeanne, Nicholas, Casey and his partner Megan, Kyle and his wife Cora, Miranda and her partner Jayson, and Samantha, and many nieces, nephews and family friends.
Jerry was known for letting people know the way things should be done! She had one last request. Jerry told loved ones that they were to only be sad for three days after her passing. Just three days and no more. You could think of her every now and then, always with a smile, maybe a bit of sadness but then just be happy.
